Fosha is author of The transforming power of affect (Basic Books, 2000); editor of the newly published Undoing aloneness & the transformation of suffering into flourishing: AEDP 2.0 (APA, 2021); co-author, with Natasha Prenn, of Supervision essentials for AEDP (APA, 2017); editor, with Dan Siegel and Marion Solomon, of The healing power of emotion: Affective neuroscience, development & clinical practice (Norton, 2009); and author of numerous articles and book chapters. We were pleased to feature Laura S. Brown, Ph.D., who grew up in Cleveland Heights Ohio. She received a doctorate in clinical psychology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1977 after completing an internship in Seattle, where she has lived since. Aside from a few brief stints as an academic, she has been in independent practice since 1979. Although she stopped practicing psychotherapy in December, 2018, she continues a practice of forensic psychological assessment, supervision and consultation, teaching, writing, and lecturing, and is working to complete a new book titled Decolonizing trauma healing: Towards a humble, culturally responsive practice.
Laura's work in the fields of feminist therapy, trauma, culturally responsive practice has, to her great surprise, come to be considered foundational in these fields (surprise, because she did not set out to be an eminent psychologist; she just writes because it gives her pleasure). In addition to her many scholarly works she has written two books for adult survivors of terrible childhoods.
In her free time as a newly solo person she practices aikido, the martial art of peace, walks, reads as many mystery novels as she is able, travels as much as is safe, and contemplates mortality as she enters her eighth decade. She is living with a rare form of metastatic melanoma of the vulva, the case report about which was recently published in JADD Case Reports, https://tinyurl.com/TVecLSB.

We were pleased to feature Dr. Lenore Walker a pioneer in studying the psychological impact of interpersonal violence and trauma. She began her early work when she was on the faculty at Rutgers Medical School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey in the early 1970s as an early feminist psychologist studying child abuse and battered women. Her later research named the Battered Woman Syndrome and helped introduce it into the courts around the U.S. and the world. In the 1980s it was her work on BWS that helped battered women who killed their abusive partners in self-defense get that testimony admitted in criminal trials. Later she modified it to assist those with BWS in civil and custody cases and then for sex trafficking and rape victims. She has been involved with American Psychological Association governance and helped formulate policies on various forms of gender violence there. Today she chairs the APA Working Group on Professional Practice Guidelines for PTSD and Trauma. She had an independent practice of psychology for many years as well as has been the Director of the Domestic Violence Institute. Although she has now retired from her long academic career, she continues at Nova Southeastern University’s College of Psychology as a Professor Emeritus. She also maintains a small forensic private practice specializing on cases where gender violence issues are raised and is a keynote speaker and consultant around the world. Walker has published over 20 books on psychology covering women’s issues, gender violence, and forensic psychology.
