We are technology early adopters but we still love and enjoy the feel of holding a book. In this section we will offer some of our favorite volumes on technology and the future for your enjoyment.

Progress monitoring systems have been developing and are becoming an increasingly important part of psychotherapeutic practice. There is evidence that using a progress monitoring system improves your results. 

Electrocranial Stimulation (ECS) is FDA approved for the treatment of depression, anxiety, and insomnia. These are excellent therapist extender tools that can be used both in office and between sessions to change brain states.

Heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback is a cost effective technology that can be downloaded as an app on a smartphone and used with various biosensors to measure the intervals between heartbeats which is a measure of physical and emotional well being. These can be used in the office or between sessions to further and enhance treatment gains. There are number of companies that offer this hardware and software. One we like is from the Heartmath company.

Neurofeedback measures the brains electrical activity and these patterns are useful to learning how to change brain states. Low cost EEG devices are now available and provide the practitioner an opportunity to have the patient practice at home.

The development of apps for behavioral and mental health issues has been exponential. Most apps do not have empirical support to show that they have efficacy so when a clinician selects an app for a particular purpose a careful review should be conducted to determine if the app is useful which may include trying them and monitoring the user experience and possible benefit.
